  This winter, the healthcare sector is expected to face significant pressure as it manages hospitalizations from COVID-19. Additionally, the influenza illness may further strain the health system (Pharmac, 2023).

  Asian Health Services (AHS), Te Whatu Ora, has facilitated several Flu Vaccination events to promote and provide easy access to influenza vaccination in culturally and linguistically diverse Asian and Ethnic communities. Event information flyers have been translated into multiple languages.

• Asian Health Week: Overview and Evaluation Report

  Asian Health Week Seminar: Overview of Presentations and Evaluation Report

  The Waitemata DHB Asian Health Week held from 17^th to 21^st August 2015 showcased the latest research and information on the health status of Asian populations in New Zealand; as well as advances in preparing a Culturally and Linguistically Diverse (CALD) culturally competent workforce nation-wide.

  Topics covered during the seminar included the latest research and service development models in the areas of:

  • Asian Health Research - trends over the last decade

  • CVD/Diabetes in Asian populations

  • Lifestyles and Asian populations - smokefree; nutrition and physical activity

  • Asian mental health

  • Health of older Asian people

  • Disability in Asian populations

  • Asian refugee population health

  • Workforce development

  
  

  Overall we had 123 attendees provide feedback and results showed a mean of 95% either agreed or strongly agreed that the seminar met their expectations with helpful content, enhanced and improved their knowledge. Attendees also reported that they had gained a good understanding of the subjects presented. In addition to written feedback, the seminar organisers received considerable verbal feedback from participants that the seminar was highly informative; stimulating and presented innovative models of care.

• The Inaugural Ethnic Workforce Networking (HNZ) Event and Lunar New Year Celebration - 23 Feb 2024

   

  

   

  The Lunar New Year begins this year on Saturday 10 February. The 15-day festival is celebrated annually and signifies the beginning of the lunar year.

   

  It is also known as the Spring Festival and an animal is associated with each new year - this year, it is the dragon. During the celebration period, Asian families gather for an annual reunion and cultural food.

   

  Asian Health Services (AHS) Team is hosting a Lunar New Year Celebration and staff networking event on Friday 23 February 11am to 1pm.

   

  This event will provide a valuable opportunity for our colleagues to connect and engage with like-minded individuals and teams, especially for our hardworking health workforce who do not have families in Aotearoa.
