Highlights of Achievements

  • Developing models of best practice: Asian Patient Support Service, Asian Mental Health Service, interpreting services and iCare health information line

  • Improving access to primary and secondary healthcare services for Asian consumers and families

  • Improving Asian women’s breast screening enrolment rate

  • Improving Asian patient experiences and capturing Asian patient stories

  • Reducing communication barriers through the provision of a quality interpreting service

  • COVID19 responsiveness to Asian & ethnic communities

  • Reducing Did Not Attend (DNA) and improved client engagement with service providers

  • Developing a responsive mental health and addiction service model for Asian people

  • Conducting on-going research and evaluation studies to inform managers, clinical leaders, and planners about strategies and trends in Asian health, as well as the effectiveness of health and mental health interventions and the health services provided

  • Developing strong partnerships with Asian and Middle Eastern Latin American African (MELAA) communities and providers; stakeholder organisations including academic researchers

  • WDHB established and developed strategic plans for the Asian & MELAA Health Governance Group and Asian Mental Health & Addiction Clinical Governance Group

  • WDHB developed the Asian Health Services website & Your Local Doctor website for accessible information on the NZ Health System and GP enrolment for new migrants and former refugees

  • Developing culturally appropriate and quality services
