• Healthy Mother Healthy Future Programme Receives Award

   

  

   

  Grace Ryu, Operations Manager – Asian Health Services and Gill Graham, Team Manager - Maternal Mental Health represented Waitematā at the Mental Health Service (TheMHS) Conference 2023 in Adelaide earlier this month. Grace and Gill presented an overview of the Healthy Mother Healthy Future Asian Perinatal Mental Health Wellbeing Programme developed at Waitematā to improve the maternal mental health outcomes of women. The programme received a ‘Highly Commended’ award at the conference, which is reflective of the considerable work and collaboration that has gone into its development.

  Well done to Grace, Gill and the many other people at Waitematā and in our community who contributed to this achievement.

  

• Asian Perinatal Wellbeing Workshop

   

  Te Whatu Ora Health New Zealand Waitematā (previously Waitematā DHB) has been delivering a pilot project 'Healthy Mother Healthy Future (HMHF) - Asian Perinatal Wellbeing Project' which is supported by the Ministry of Health (MoH) to provide very comprehensive info & support to Asian pregnant women and mothers with infants by improving their accessibility to relevant services for their emotional wellbeing.

   

  As many as one-in-five women experience anxiety, depression or both at some stage during their pregnancy or after the baby is born. One-in-ten partners also experience similar emotional distress. Please join us in a workshop and learn some useful tips on self-care and stress-management during these challenging times.

• Your Emotional Wellbeing and Beyond

   

  

   

  Waitematā DHB Asian Health Services (AHS) is introducing a pilot project ‘Healthy Mother Healthy Future (HMHF) - Asian Perinatal Wellbeing Project 2022’. This project is supported by the Ministry of Health (MoH) with the goal of supporting the emotional wellbeing of pregnant Asian women, and mothers with infants by improving their accessibility to relevant services and information.

  Your Emotional Wellbeing and Beyond” booklet was developed by the maternity service (WDHB) to support pregnant women and mothers and it was translated with clinical & cultural reviews by Asian Mental Health Service, Asian Patient Support Service and  WATIS (Waitemata Translation & Interpreting service) as well as Asian/ethnic consumer reviews.

  The wonderful booklet is now available in multiple languages - English, Simplified 中文, Traditional 中文, 한국어 , Hindi, Tagalog, Pashtu, Urdu, Japanese, Thai, Arabic, Indonesian, Vietnamese, Burmese

   

• Asian Health Week: Overview and Evaluation Report

  Asian Health Week Seminar: Overview of Presentations and Evaluation Report

  The Waitemata DHB Asian Health Week held from 17^th to 21^st August 2015 showcased the latest research and information on the health status of Asian populations in New Zealand; as well as advances in preparing a Culturally and Linguistically Diverse (CALD) culturally competent workforce nation-wide.

  Topics covered during the seminar included the latest research and service development models in the areas of:

  • Asian Health Research - trends over the last decade

  • CVD/Diabetes in Asian populations

  • Lifestyles and Asian populations - smokefree; nutrition and physical activity

  • Asian mental health

  • Health of older Asian people

  • Disability in Asian populations

  • Asian refugee population health

  • Workforce development

  
  

  Overall we had 123 attendees provide feedback and results showed a mean of 95% either agreed or strongly agreed that the seminar met their expectations with helpful content, enhanced and improved their knowledge. Attendees also reported that they had gained a good understanding of the subjects presented. In addition to written feedback, the seminar organisers received considerable verbal feedback from participants that the seminar was highly informative; stimulating and presented innovative models of care.

• 2024 Flu vaccination events for the Asian and ethnic community

  

   

  Asian Health Services (AHS) is organising group vaccination events in April 2024, with a particular emphasis on catering to the needs of Asian and other ethnic migrants who have long-term medical conditions, mental health conditions, older people, pregnant women, and former refugees. These populations may face challenges in accessing vaccination services, and AHS aims to address these specific needs through these events.

   

  Additional vaccinations, including COVID-19, MMR, whooping cough, and shingles, will be available with pre-booking.

   

  We would greatly appreciate your assistance in spreading the word about these events within your network and newsletter, if applicable.
